On October 16, 2024, 211 LA proudly celebrated our recognition at the 37th Annual Productivity and Quality Awards Ceremony for our role in the LA vs Hate initiative. This honor reflects the strength of collaboration and the tremendous impact we can achieve when we unite with dedicated partners like the LA County Human Relations Commission, Special Service for Groups, Inc., TaskForce, and many others who proudly serve LA County's vulnerable communities.

In February 2018, a UCLA study revealed a troubling 11% increase in reported bullying, underscoring the urgent need for action against hate acts, which often go unreported.

Recognizing this critical gap, our LA County partners came together to create LA vs Hate—a community-driven system designed to combat hate, violence, and bullying by casting a safety net around victims of hate and providing support through collaboration.

Here are some key achievements made possible through the LA vs Hate network:

  • Establishment of the First Hate Reporting Line: Launched in 2019, the LA vs Hate reporting and care coordination hotline operates on a 24/7 basis and supports all languages spoken in LA County. Our partners helped us create a safe space for victims to report incidents and seek support, empowering our community to speak out against hate.
  • Robust Care Coordination: At 211 LA, we developed an effective case management system that enhances our ability to respond to hate acts and connect individuals with vital resources.
  • Serving the Community: Collectively, we have served over 50,469 County residents, ensuring that those affected by hate have access to necessary support services.
  • Arts-Led Awareness Campaign: The initiative also facilitated an innovative arts-led messaging campaign that has garnered 2 billion views and shares, amplifying the collective message and fostering community engagement.
  • Driving Policy Change: Together, we’ve influenced crucial policy advancements, such as collaborating with the California Civil Rights Department to guide landlords and property management firms on addressing hate incidents.
  • Supporting Students: Our partners have been instrumental in establishing eight Dream Resource Centers in schools, dedicated to addressing bullying and ensuring safe environments for all students.

As we reflect on these achievements, we extend heartfelt gratitude to all our funders and partners, including the Board of Supervisors, the County’s Commission on Human Relations, and numerous community organizations. Cheers!
